Impact investing is an innovative and rapidly growing financing tool that fuses community benefit, enterprise, and simple returns to drive new and creative solutions for the most pressing social issues. In the Pacific Northwest, the affordable housing crisis is one issue that demonstrates the many challenges organizations face to develop comprehensive solutions, including identification of flexible and reliable funding sources.
In this session, Toby Levey, vice president of real estate transactions at Forterra, will present on Forterra’s Strong Communities Funds (SCF), a social impact investment fund created to accelerate the strengthening of communities and promote a vibrant and diversified economy while stewarding the natural environment through sustainable development. SCF has committed to projects in Tukwila, the Seattle Central District, Rainier Valley, and Tacoma Hilltop. Forterra is using the SCF to capitalize investment from other private investors, foundations, and lenders to develop a new mixed-use affordable housing prototype that is replicable and scalable.
